The Assistant Superintendent/Vice President for Student Services serves as the College's Chief Student Services Officer and provides executive leadership, vision, and strategic direction for all student services, enrollment services, equity and access initiatives, and holistic student support programs. Reporting to the Superintendent/President and serving as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Vice President is responsible for shaping the institution's student experience; advancing equitable access, retention, completion, and post completion success; and ensuring that student centered practices are integrated throughout the College.

The Vice President leads a comprehensive division that supports the educational journey of a diverse student population through enrollment management, counseling and student development, basic needs and wraparound support, accessibility and health services, equity-based programs, and student life and engagement. The role provides strategic leadership in developing innovative and inclusive service delivery models; aligning student services with instructional programs and institutional goals; leveraging data and institutional research to remove barriers and close equity gaps; and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations governing student support.

In partnership with the Vice President of Instruction, the Vice President for Student Services fosters a cohesive, student ready institutional culture; advances integrated academic and student support strategies; and collaborates closely with campus and community stakeholders to promote learning, belonging, and student achievement. The position represents the College at regional and statewide levels, strengthens community partnerships, and ensures that all student services contribute meaningfully to the College's mission, vision, and long term strategic priorities.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Serves as the District's Chief Student Services Officer, providing executive leadership for student services and support programs in alignment with District mission, goals, and policies.
  • Directs, evaluates, and strengthens all student services operations, ensuring effective delivery of programs that promote access, equity, retention, completion, and student success.
  • Leads the development and implementation of district-wide student success, access, and completion strategies, using data to drive continuous improvement and equitable outcomes.
  • Provides executive oversight of student support services, discipline, and due process to ensure fair, consistent, and legally compliant practices that protect student rights.
  • Leads assessment of Student Learning Outcomes and Student Services/Support Outcomes to ensure programs are effective, responsive, and aligned with institutional goals.
  • Works collaboratively with the Vice President of Instruction and other executives to align instructional and student support services, strengthening academic pathways, transfer, and degree and certificate completion.
  • Directs development and oversight of student services budgets and categorical funding to ensure fiscal accountability, audit compliance, and alignment with program objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, Board policies, and accreditation standards; recommends policy updates and supports shared governance processes.
  • Leads development of comprehensive, equity driven programs designed to close equity gaps and support disproportionately impacted student populations.
  • Ensures delivery of holistic support services, including counseling, basic needs, disability services, health and mental health services, veteran services, and international student support.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with community organizations, K-12 districts, four-year institutions, and regional agencies to expand student opportunities and support pathways.
  • Serves on the executive leadership team to advance enrollment management, institutional planning, grants, and fundraising.
  • Represents Student Services in shared governance and advises the Superintendent/President on matters related to student success, equity, and campus climate.
  • Directly manages all aspects of employee lifecycle including recruitment, transfers, suspensions, layoffs, recalls, promotions, terminations, task assignments, performance evaluations, rewards, disciplinary actions, and grievance resolution, ensuring adherence to District policies and legal requirements.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.





MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a master's degree from an accredited university in Counseling, Educational Administration, Educational Leadership, or a related discipline.
  • Five (5) years of increasing responsible experience in a leadership position in a student services environment, preferably a community college.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a doctorate in a related discipline.
  • Mediation and/or experience in cross cultural dispute resolution.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES- May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, integrate, and improve a wide array of student services programs.
  • Deep knowledge of federal and state mandates affecting student services (e.g., Title IX, FERPA, Americans with Disabilities Act, Clery Act, and California Education Code).
  • Capacity to manage and lead a large, complex division composed of multiple units and directors. Skilled at leading organizational change, breaking down silos, modernizing systems, and fostering high-performing teams focused on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to collaborate across academic affairs, business services, and information systems to align student services with instruction, technology, and campus operations.
  • Skill in using institutional research, program review, service metrics, and disaggregated student data to evaluate programs, assess student outcomes, and inform policy.
  • Experience managing large budgets across multiple categorical and general funds.
  • Capable of aligning resources with student needs, securing grant funding, and advocating for budget priorities that support student success.
  • Proficiency in representing the institution with regional educational partners, legislative bodies, advocacy groups, and community stakeholders.
  • Commitment to advancing racial, economic, and educational equity through services and programs that eliminate barriers, close equity gaps, and promote inclusive success.
  • Demonstrated experience working with communities who have been traditionally underserved by higher education and experience with pedagogies reflecting intersections of race, culture, class, ethnic, and queer identities.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES
  • Seeing to inspect written documents, communicate with District staff, sitting for extended periods of time; bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching to retrieve and file equipment, and dexterity of hands and fingers to operate and repair equipment as well as to type on a computer keyboard.
  • Standing, and walking between work areas is required.
  • Positions in this classification may occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information and equipment.
  • Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds with the use of proper equipment.


WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions.
  • Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
