Research Technician - Immunology (Bettini Lab)

Job Summary

Immediate opening for a Research Technician in the Maria Bettini Lab in the Department of Pathology Division of Microbiology & Immunology. This position will manage day-to-day lab activities including ordering, stocking the lab, mouse colony management, as well as contributing to team projects. Research in the laboratory spans several fields, including immunology, metabolism, autoimmunity, molecular and cellular biology. The focus of research is on T cell function in chronic autoimmunity.

The Research Technician will assist with basic research experiments including molecular biology, cell biology and culture, mouse experiments and animal care. This position provides an opportunity to train in one or more cutting-edge immunological approaches, including spectral high parameter flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, and vector mediated gene transfer.

Responsibilities
RESEARCH TECHNICIAN II (Job code S56442)
Key Responsibilities
  1. Confers with the PI and senior laboratory personnel regarding the procedures and techniques to be followed in conducting research and recommends modifications as needed.
  2. Performs specialized tests and procedures using complex equipment.
  3. Procures supplies and materials needed for laboratory research.
  4. Conducts literature reviews to obtain abstracts and information to be utilized in research.
  5. Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data and prepares reports summarizing results.
  6. May supervise the care of research animals; perform minor animal surgery or collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis.

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
Research Technician, I: Requires little to no related experience.
Research Technician, II: Requires at least 1 year of related experience.



Preferences
Preference will be given to candidates that have previous experience in one or more of the following: molecular biology (such as PCR), flow cytometry, immunology, mouse handling, small animal surgery.
