Transportation Services at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Fleet Technician II! This role is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining CU Boulder light-duty vehicles. This position ensures these vehicles are operating safely, efficiently, and in compliance with University, State, and Federal requirements.

Who We Are
Transportation Services provides comprehensive transit, fleet management, and maintenance to serve the faculty, staff, students, and visitors at the University of Colorado Boulder. The University of Colorado vehicle fleet numbers over 600; a robust transit system moving 1.4 million riders per year at the University of Colorado-Boulder campus; and offers guidance for driver operations for campuses located in Aurora, Boulder, and Denver.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Preventive and Malfunction Maintenance
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections of university fleet vehicles.
- Complete service intervals per manufacturer's recommendations.
- Efficiently diagnose the root cause of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems malfunctions to determine the appropriate repairs, including parts replacement, tuning, and software updates.
- Use various proprietary diagnostic equipment and software to diagnose, examine, and investigate light-duty computer-controlled systems.
- Identify, replace, or repair worn, defective, or damaged parts.
- Perform in-service and prep for auction on fleet vehicles, including removing and installing decals.
- Document all work performed on shop work orders using AssetWorks fleet management software.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of safety hazards. Ensure necessary safety precautions are established to ensure a safe work environment.
- Ensure proper operation of shop tools and equipment.
- Order and obtain parts from local and regional vendors.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and departments regarding vehicle status and repair recommendations.
- Return vehicles to users in a timely, proper, and cost-effective manner.
- Perform discretionary fabrication and modification of obsolete parts or tools, noting that safety is top priority.
- Actively and continuously improve professional knowledge, skills, and abilities by participating in training sessions and educational seminars.
What You Should Know
This in-person position has an anticipated work schedule of Monday - Friday during regular business hours. On occasion, this role may be on-call or respond to campus emergencies outside of regular shift hours.This position is eligible for a department Employee Referral Program.
What We Can Offer
The salary range is $54,000 - $60,000 annually.

What We Require
- 2 years' experience working on light-duty vehicles OR a combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience equal to 2 years.
- Experience working with air conditioning systems, brakes, steering suspension, and diagnostic tools.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a drug test.
- CDL class B license with passenger endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

- Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Basic working knowledge of Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel).
