Position Announcement

The School of Aviation Sciences (www.uvu.edu/aviation) invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in aviation to begin August 1, 2026.

The aviation sciences faculty develops and teaches undergraduate courses. The faculty engages in scholarly activities and/or creative works that contribute to the mission of the university, department, and profession. In addition, faculty engages with the community through activities such as community outreach, industry partnering, and curriculum alignment to meet the needs of industry partners. Faculty may be required to teach day, evening, weekend, online, blended, or off-campus courses.

The School of Aviation Sciences has educated thousands of aviation industry professionals since 1988 and offers a B.S. Professional Pilot and a B.S. Aviation Management. The School's flight training center is located at our Provo Airport Campus, which only a 15-minute drive from UVU's main campus. The Global Aviation online program provides funding and travel opportunities supporting faculty directed initiatives. Summary of Responsibilities

Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures and other appropriate methods or educational delivery.
Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
Engages in scholarly activities including applied research and produces scholarly/creative work consistent with disciplinary specialization and the academic goals of the department.
Serves the department, college, and university by attending departmental meetings, working on committees, and accepting other service appointments.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Aviation or a related field to the coursework being taught.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in an aviation related field from a regionally accredited university.
Higher education experience with online teaching experience.

Physical Requirements:

Frequent talking, hearing, sitting, walking, and standing.
Frequent use of fine-hand manipulation associated with the use of a computer.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

Knowledge of the principles and methodology of adult teaching techniques.
Knowledge of current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) policies, regulations and procedures as related to best practices in industry.
Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data analysis and research methodology.
Knowledge of subject matter and course content.
Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques in upper and lower division courses.
Knowledge of student management, motivation, evaluation; evaluation of (peer and self) instruction.
Knowledge of program and curriculum development and evaluation.
Knowledge of and expertise in current trends in education such as: engaged learning and service learning, learning technologies (e.g., digital technologies for classroom management and distance education), public presenting and report and grant writing.

Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.
