Position Announcement


Utah Valley University's Utah Fire and Rescue Academy (UFRA) is seeking a Training Program Manager to oversee and deliver high-quality fire training for an assigned region in Utah. In this role, you will coordinate closely with local fire authorities to schedule courses, secure training props, assign instructors, and manage textbook rentals to ensure smooth and effective training operations. You'll also contribute to the development and continual improvement of curriculum, ensuring it aligns with NFPA, state, and University standards while supporting firefighter certification and professional growth.

This position offers the opportunity to serve as a subject matter expert, helping shape curriculum and certification testing, while also representing UFRA at regional meetings with fire chiefs and firefighters. Summary of Responsibilities


  • Oversees, manages, and coordinates all fire training for the assigned area of the state. Collaborates with the UFRA Program Director and area emergency services departments on training strategies and implementation. Assigns adjunct instructors, provides learning materials, and ensures delivery of necessary fire training props. Acts as a liaison between UFRA, state fire authorities, and stakeholders, ensuring a high level of service.
  • Research, plan, create, and implement new fire training curriculum. Oversees and assigns subject matter expert adjuncts for committee reviews. Reviews NFPA standards and curriculum to maintain an understanding of new fire training requirements.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on assigned cadres that create the Utah fire training curriculum and assist with certification tests.
  • Other tasks as assigned.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications


  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree plus one year of experience related to the Summary of Duties, OR any combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling five years.
  • Applicant must have Utah State Fire Service certifications and credentials as approved by the UFRA Director.
  • Candidate must have a minimum of five years' experience teaching Fire Science and have equivalent certificates, qualifications, and years of experience in multiple fire & emergency subject areas and leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of fire service experience, with five (5) years having held the rank of company officer, training officer, and/or chief officer.
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards, federal and state regulations pertaining to fire science, and knowledge of the Utah Fire Service Certification System.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of NFPA standards, federal and state regulations, and laws pertaining to fire science, and has knowledge of the Utah Fire Service Certification System and the NFPA.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and local grant funding sources and programs, as well as the procedures to apply for these opportunities.
  • Knowledge of management techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of instructional objectives, course development techniques and standards, and evaluation methods, including those related to distance learning.
  • Knowledge of statewide fire and emergency services training programs, certification processes, and
  • UVU academic emergency services programs and how these relate to state and national guidelines, policies, regulations, standards, and requirements.
Skills
  • Skills with managing and prioritizing multiple projects and assignments.
  • Skills with managing, preparing, creating, and delivering courses in the classroom and field.
Abilities
  • Ability to work and travel remotely, independently, and with a group to complete assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to foster professional relationships with Chief Officers, CEOs, allied training professionals, as well as groups with competing interests.
  • Ability to aid in the monitoring of budgets.
  • Ability to use databases, spreadsheets, and understand word processing applications.
  • Ability to supervise staff and adjunct instructors, and work with others as a team.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally, non-verbally, and in writing.
  • Ability to resolve conflict in a nonthreatening and mutually beneficial way.
