Job Summary
The Health and Wellness Services department encourages applications for a Temporary Health Insurance Liaison! Under the direction of the Billing & Coding Manager, this role focuses on providing education and support related to student health insurance, with a strong emphasis on Medicaid and commercial insurance plans. This position is responsible for helping students navigate their health insurance options, including understanding coverage details, benefits, eligibility criteria, and out-of-pocket costs. The liaison interprets insurance policies and Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), ensuring students and university staff are informed about plan limitations and follows relevant laws and regulations. This position plays a key role in educating students about Medicaid, including determining potential eligibility, assisting with the application and enrollment process, and providing ongoing support for maintaining coverage. They serve as a liaison between students and Medicaid representatives to help facilitate smooth enrollment. This role also promotes the university-sponsored student health insurance plans-Gold and BuffCare-through active engagement in student orientations, campus events, and one-on-one outreach. The liaison works closely with students and their families to communicate the benefits of these plans and support informed decision-making regarding health insurance coverage.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Insurance Support
- Read and interpret insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOB) related to student billing
- Check insurance payments for accuracy and compliance with contracts
- Work with payer regarding any discrepancy in payments as needed
- Interpret insurance policy details
- Help students understand their benefits for commercial and/or campus insurances
- Actively promote and sell campus insurances by engaging in orientations, campus events, and through direct communication
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, insurance representatives, and staff while following HIPAA guidelines when discussing payments, adjustments, or denials
- Assist patients and staff by educating them on insurance processes and requirements
- Make arrangements for medical records requests and completion of additional information requests as required by insurance companies
- Respond to inquiries from insurance companies, patients, and providers
- Confer with Assistant Director to discuss and resolve reimbursement issues or billing obstacles
- Use reports, dashboards, and benchmarks for trending and analytics
- Educate students on Medicaid insurance eligibility and benefits
- Assist students in enrolling in Medicaid insurance programs
- Coordinate with Medicaid representatives or portals to facilitate successful enrollment
- Maintain documentation and track student enrollment status in Medicaid
- Provide ongoing support to students regarding Medicaid usage and renewal
What You Should Know
This is a part-time, temporary on-call position working 10-12 hours a week. Based on team needs, the weekly schedule and hours will vary and be coordinated with the manager. We anticipate this assignment lasting around 6 months.
What We Can Offer
The hourly pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00.
Benefits
Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.

What We Require
- Two years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
- Certification related to the work assigned to position may substitute for the required experience.
- Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
What You Will Need
- Basic insurance billing knowledge.
- Customer Service skills.
- Ability to contact insurance companies to discuss the type of plan the patient has.
