Overview
The Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Instructor teaches credit courses within the Air Conditioning, Refrigeration Associates Degree Program as part of an instructional team at the Innovative Manufacturing Education Center on the Central Campus in Janesville. Instruction is provided utilizing flexible formats that meet the educational needs of students, business and industry. This position collaborates with employers, provides oversight of program part-time (adjunct) faculty, and is a member of the Manufacturing, Apprenticeship, Technology and Transportation (MATT) Division faculty.

This position teaches courses in the areas of Blackhawk Technical College's Air conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Technician program. Duties include teaching course work within the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration program ensuring courses meet the skills needed for the occupations for which students are preparing. Instructional assignment will include evening hours two nights per week.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide instruction for Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Technician program courses as assigned.
  2. Engage in ongoing student learning assessment in the Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Technician program to determine effectiveness of instruction and curriculum. Use data to measure program outcomes related to student persistence, retention, completion rate, course success, and to design improvement strategies based on the evidence.
  3. Support students in FlexLab courses team-taught in coordination with other BTC Air conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration program faculty. Collaborate with instructors, advisors and staff in a team effort to help improve student success in the program's flexible teaching and learning environment.
  4. Remain current on best practices in the teaching field so that instruction is delivered for a variety of learning styles, uses the latest supportive technology, and utilizes alternative delivery methods. Develop curricula, assessments and lab projects utilizing the program's flexible teaching modalities including on-line, lab-based and project driven learning.
  5. Manage classrooms and operate a working HVAC/R shop/lab to ensure a safe and productive learning environment. Responsible for shop/lab inventory, ordering of supplies, tools and equipment, and the maintenance of required shop/lab equipment.
  6. Maintain accurate student records and reports as requested by administrative offices.
  7. Identify students needing assistance and refer students to Student Services. Collaborate with Student Services and the Learning Resources staff members to help students adjust to the learning environment.
  8. Develop and update or revise course and program curriculum as needed to maintain relevance. Prepare and update course syllabi (using BTC guidelines) for each course taught, and work cooperatively with members of other departments and programs in coordinating courses.
  9. Meet weekly office hours and other duties required to meet student, employer, and college needs.
  10. Create a classroom environment that is respectful of diversity and demonstrates a commitment to multiculturalism.
  11. Collaborate with Business & Industry and Secondary Education partners to recruit students to the Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Technician program. Assist in job placement activities for graduates.
  12. Attend Advisory Committee and departmental meetings.
  13. Participate in staff development activities and serve on college improvement teams and college wide committees as appropriate.
  14. Assist faculty chair and dean in other duties as assigned.
  15. Meet Wisconsin Technical College System professional development requirements through the Faculty Quality Assurance System.




Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Training (one of the following:

Option 1:
  • Two-year Technical Diploma or Associate's Degree and Industry recognized certification in the field of instruction (e.g.: EPA 608 certification, NATE, HVAC Excellence, etc.).
  • Five (5) years or 10,000 hours of related work experience.


Option 2:

  • Bachelor's Degree in in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineer Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities Management, Industrial Studies, Technology Education, Career and Technical Education or a closely related discipline.
  • Two (2) years or 4,000 hours of related work experience. Teaching related field may be considered for one (1) year of occupational experience.

Option 3:

One of the following credentials:
  • The completion of an apprenticeship with Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards or with federally registered program
  • A signed letter from a representative of an appropriate and authorized apprenticeship advisory committee.
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer in Wisconsin or state with licensure reciprocity.
  • Licensure as an HVAC Qualifier in HVAC, or Autodesk Certified Professional in Revit or Mechanical Design

And
  • Five (5) years or 10,000 hours or related work experience.


Blackhawk Technical College does not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.
