Position Description
The Jewish Chaplain at Seattle University supports Jewish students by providing worship services, religious support, and programs that promote and build an inclusive and vibrant community. As part of the University Ministry team, this part-time position works in collaboration on programs and efforts to support a plural religious community, strengthening the university's Jesuit Catholic mission. This is a pilot experience for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Supervisor: Associate Director of Liturgy, Worship, and Formation
Essential Job Functions
- Spiritual Accompaniment (40%): Provide spiritual support and accompaniment primarily to Jewish students, with some overlap in supporting staff and faculty.
- Student Engagement & Program Development (20%): Collaborate with the Jewish Student Union and other Jewish student leaders to develop and lead religious services and gatherings on campus.
- Space Administration (10%): Oversee and manage the inventory and administration of current Jewish prayer spaces.
- Interfaith Collaboration (10%): Participate, collaborate, and engage in inter-religious programming in partnership with University Ministry, the Department of Theology and Religious Studies, Mission Integration, and the Center for Ecumenical and Interreligious Engagement.
- Spiritual Leadership & Education (10%): Provide spiritual leadership and accompaniment to all students with a spirit of inclusivity, and educate the broader community about Judaism.
- Administrative & Team Responsibilities (10%): Attend team and division meetings as appropriate, and engage in necessary administrative tasks such as room scheduling, budget maintenance for programs, and working with marketing to promote offerings.
Qualifications
- A master's degree in Jewish studies or a related field.
- At least 2-3 years of experience in a university setting.
- Familiarity with and passion for Jesuit educational values.

Compensation at a Glance
Salary Range: 35.00 per hour
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
