Job Description:
This is an exciting time to join Madison College's Early Learning Campus as we embark on a period of growth and expansion! The Child Care Food Service Technician position plays a vital role in ensuring high nutritional standards at our state-of-the-art facility, serving children aged 6 weeks to 5 years.
In collaboration with the Childcare Food Specialist, the Child Care Food Service Technician oversees all aspects of food service, clean-up, and site sanitation, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. You will help prepare menu-specified recipes for breakfast, lunch, and snacks that meet the diverse nutritional needs of our young learners in a nurturing and inclusive environment. In the absence of the Childcare Food Specialist, you'll take the lead in food preparation, service, and clean-up, ensuring seamless operations.
This position reports to the Associate Manager of the Early Learning Campus, where your contributions will directly impact our mission to provide exceptional early childhood education and care as part of our exciting expansion efforts.
This is a part-time, 25 hours per week, year-round (52 weeks) position. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with flexibility to work within the center's operating hours of 7:30am to 5:00pm.

Accountabilities:
- Assists the Childcare Food Specialist in preparing meals that meet menu guidelines, nutritional and cultural needs, and age-appropriate portions. Prepares food for special center events and promotes family-style dining in classrooms. Leads food preparation in the absence of the Childcare Food Specialist. This ensures children receive nutritious, culturally respectful meals in a supportive environment that encourages healthy eating habits and social development.
- Delivers meals and service items to classrooms on schedule, returns leftovers and dishes to the kitchen, and cleans and stores food according to regulations. This ensures timely, safe meal service and maintains compliance with health standards to support children's well-being.
- Maintains inventory and condition of supplies and equipment, reporting any faults to the Childcare Food Specialist and Assistant Manager. This helps ensure a safe, efficient kitchen environment and uninterrupted meal service.
- Ensures all food service areas are safe, clean, and culturally appropriate, maintaining compliance with State Licensing, City Accreditation, USDA Food Program, Wisconsin Early Learning Standards, and Madison College policies. This safeguards the health and well-being of all enrolled children while meeting essential regulatory and quality standards.
- Together with the Childcare Food Specialist, maintains accurate records of menus, production, inventory, and sanitation. Inspects food deliveries for accuracy, safety, and quality, promptly reporting any issues. This ensures accountability, regulatory compliance, and the delivery of safe, high-quality meals to children.
- Contributes to program newsletters and supports training for student-staff nutrition aides to promote family involvement and nutrition education. This fosters stronger family engagement and enhances the skills of nutrition aides, improving overall program effectiveness and child health outcomes.
- Performs light housekeeping tasks, including laundry and sanitizing classroom toys and materials, to support the center's overall safety and success. This helps maintain a clean, healthy environment conducive to child development and well-being.
- Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Meets requirements of WI Licensing Rules for Group Day Care Centers (HFS 46) for physical exam, TB skin test, and criminal background check both upon hire and on ongoing basis. Achieve within 3 months and maintain current certification in first aid and CPR.
- Ability to follow recipes, worksheets, and verbal instructions to prepare food per regulations, including scaling recipes and portioning servings for infants-preschoolers.
- Knowledge of quantity food preparation, equipment, and sanitation methods is desirable
- Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
- Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent working experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
Experience:
- 0-2 years of relevant experience
- First Aid/CPR certification required within three (3) months of hire.
