The Assistant Director for Financial Aid supports the processing and maintenance of financial aid applications for students at the School of Medicine and plays a key role in the delivery of financial aid services. This position works closely with the Associate Dean for Enrollment and Financial Aid to implement and evaluate policies, programs, and resources that support students' financial wellness and access to funding. The Assistant Director is responsible for managing the awarding of institutional, federal, and state financial aid funds, and contributes to the development and execution of strategic initiatives that enhance aid distribution and student support. The role involves direct counseling of prospective and current students on all aspects of the financial aid process, including eligibility, budgeting, loan repayment, and financial literacy. This position also helps ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including Title IV and Title VII, as well as institutional policies. The Assistant Director maintains an up-to-date understanding of federal, state, and institutional regulations and ensures the School of Medicine's ongoing adherence to t hem. Additionally, the Assistant Director assists in the preparation of required reports for federal and state agencies, supports annual audits, and contributes to responses for program reviews. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Provides comprehensive financial aid counseling to prospective and current medical students, addressing topics such as cost of attendance, eligibility requirements, budgeting, debt management, and loan repayment options.
  • Conducts federal loan entrance and exit counseling sessions, and ensures students understand their rights and responsibilities as borrowers, including deferment and forbearance options during residency.
  • Delivers ongoing communications through email, blog posts, presentations, and events to inform students about deadlines, scholarships, financial literacy resources, and award updates.
  • Maintains an in-depth understanding of federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations, ensuring compliance with Title IV, Title VII, and audit requirements.
  • Manages the collection and maintenance of current and historical financial aid data, supports annual audits, and leads data submission and analysis for LCME accreditation standards (e.g., Standard 1B).
  • Assists with federal verification, match resolution, and institutional aid reconciliation in collaboration with the Director for University Financial Aid Compliance.
  • Manages the review of financial aid applications and performs need analysis by assessing student and parent financial documents in compliance with federal and institutional methodologies.
  • Oversees the packaging and awarding of federal, state, and institutional financial aid-including Stafford Loans, scholarships, and institutional loans-based on holistic review and eligibility.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean and institutional leadership to ensure the strategic use and equitable disbursement of financial aid funds in alignment with budget goals and donor intent.
  • Revises awards as needed based on external aid, enrollment changes, or appeals, and ensures accurate notification and fund disbursement.


Work Interactions

This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Enrollment and Financial Aid. This position ensures proper implementation of federal regulations and university policy regarding both federal and institutional financial aid. The Assistant Director maintains a close working relationship with other administrative offices within the School of Medicine including Advancement, the Dean for Medical Education, Student Affairs and the Registrar. In addition, the Assistant Director works with both Law Center & Main Campus Financial Aid Offices, the Office of Student Accounts, University Information Services, and with representatives from outside lending institutions, the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services and the United States Military. The Assistant Director for Financial Aid plays a vital role in supporting medical students throughout the financial aid lifecycle-from application to repayment-while ensuring institutional and regulatory compliance.

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$44,022.00 - $73,406.80

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
