University Safety Cadet
Requirements: A High School diploma or equivalent is required. Applicant must be a current Wilmington University student and at least 18 years old. Must have excellent written, oral, and electronic communication skills as well as excellent customer service and organization skills. Must be detail-oriented yet able to grasp the larger perspective of University issues and be able to work with diverse populations. Ability to maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality in all situations is necessary. Must be self-directed and able to make decisions independently. Must be committed to a team-building approach as well as maintaining an effective working relationship with all employees. Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office products. Must demonstrate respect for others in the workplace and a commitment to creating a supportive work environment that values the contributions of all employees. The ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in any situation is a must.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Responsible for patrolling campus facilities and providing visible security coverage during hours of operation.
- Monitor safety desks, telephones, radios, and security/fire alarms.
- Respond to calls for service by students, faculty, staff, and visitors, as necessary.
- Monitor the Central Command Center and make observations of unusual, suspicious, or questionable activity, make detailed notes of the activity, and/or contact the appropriate authorities.
- Monitor access of students, faculty, staff, visitors, and vendors in and out of the university buildings.
- Work closely with University Constable Staff.
- Provide escorts to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Work the identification station.
- Monitor and assist with traffic control at all campuses.
- Secure and unsecure campus buildings and classrooms.
- Report safety issues/hazards to the appropriate safety supervisors and/or proper departments.
- Promote and foster a supportive environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
- Perform other duties, which may be assigned by the Department of University Safety and/or the AVP.
Hours of Employment: Generally, Monday-Friday, between 8:00 am – 4:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Incumbent may be asked to be flexible with their hours to meet the needs of the department and/or the university.
