IT Specialist

Job Summary

The College of Science is seeking an Information Technology Specialist to join a high performing team of IT professionals, dedicated to serving the needs of faculty, staff and students. This position will be working with the Department of Physics & Astronomy, located in the newly opened L.S. Skaggs Applied Science Building on the University of Utah campus. The College of Science IT Team is working to streamline operations and standardize exceptional service across campus, and this position will be joining a dynamic team led by an Interim Director of IT.

The successful candidate will be able to perform duties across multiple areas of information technology, such as computer hardware, server software, networking, telecommunications, computer support, database analysis, data security, and other areas of the overall IT platform/infrastructure. They will be responsible for the stability, integrity, and operation of all systems by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network software, hardware, and operating systems.

Responsibilities
Additional tasks include:
  • Identify, troubleshoot, resolve and report systems issues.
  • Respond to user requests for system support and upgrades.
  • Manage security solutions: EDR, antivirus, and DLP systems.
  • Perform scheduled network tasks, software and systems updates,, manage backup systems, and provide internet and intranet user support.
  • Conduct analysis, including planning, designing, and evaluating a variety of information technology tools.
  • Participate in IT projects to drive technological efficiencies.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalency or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within areas of specialty.
