The Office of Advancement at CU Boulder encourages applications for two Associate Directors of Development in the Leeds School of Business! These roles are frontline development officers responsible for successfully engaging constituents and soliciting their philanthropic support in a way that is both exceptionally donor centered and that impacts the strategic vision of the Leeds School. The Associate Directors will be passionate about growing an existing portfolio of relationships capable of making commitments of $25,000 and above. These positions typically handle early and mid- level, moderately sophisticated donor and prospective donor relationships, with the intent of cultivating, sustaining and growing their engagement and investment. Our team thrives on the energy, passion and school pride that comes from daily interactions with business students and the vibrant CU Boulder campus community.
On campus, the Associate Directors will partner closely with a dynamic team of advancement professionals and partners to develop compelling proposals, draft gift agreements, deliver thoughtful stewardship, and create innovative approaches that align donor passions with Leeds Strategic Planning initiative, Leeds 2035.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Portfolio Management and Donor Engagement
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of 75-100 individual prospects capable of making gifts at the major gift level ($25,000) through strategic cultivation and stewardship.
  • In partnership with the Managing Senior Director, develop annual goals around development work (face to face meetings, proposals, dollars raised, etc.).
  • Develop strategic plan for cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors as appropriate, collaborating with the gift planning team, development and stewardship colleagues, and academic partners when appropriate.
  • Travel regularly to key donor markets across the country, representing the Leeds School at select evening and weekend events that strengthen and deepen donor connections with Leeds and CU Boulder.
  • Facilitate volunteer opportunities and student interactions to strategically establish relationships in ways that leverage time, talent, and professional expertise on behalf of Leeds.
  • Document strategies and contact reports, evaluate new prospects and generate stewardship reports and general correspondence to cultivate major gift prospects.
  • Grow philanthropic totals by deepening collaboration with advancement and other campus colleagues for enhanced donor engagement. This involves participating in regular internal meetings and engagement opportunities (task forces, frontline fundraiser meetings, etc.).
  • Demonstrate curiosity, initiative, and a growth mindset by seeking new ways to connect donor passions with school priorities, collaborating with colleagues to drive meaningful results.
  • Facilitate positive relationships between donors and CU administrators, faculty and staff to ensure efficiency of programs.
  • Represent the University at events to support CU and cultivate donors.
  • Other duties as assigned.



What You Should Know

  • This position will require local, regional, and out-of-state travel to meet with donors.
  • This position has the ability to work a hybrid schedule with some days on campus and some days remote.
  • This position will occasionally be required to work evenings/weekends.


What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $78,000-$90,000 annually. Relocation assistance is available within Advancement guidelines.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience or combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • 3+ years of professional, job-related experience including at least 1 year of paid fundraising experience.


What You Will Need

  • Knowledge of fundraising techniques, especially in a higher education/nonprofit environment.
  • Desire to learn about major gift solicitation techniques.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with new people on a regular basis.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities; ability to appropriately manage time and meet set timelines.
  • Ability to take constructive feedback from leadership and campus partners.
  • Ability to champion the shared values of the Office of Advancement.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of tact, discretion, and collaboration in working with a diverse range of constituents including employees, students, volunteers, alumni, donors, and campus colleagues.
