Position Summary

Housing & Residence Life at Seattle University has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Coordinator for Residential Education. Reporting to the Associate Director for Community Engagement and Learning Initiatives (AD, CELI), the Senior Coordinator for Residential Education (SCRE) is a full-time, live-in position that coordinates and oversees multiple programs, services, and operations within the Housing and Residence Life (HRL) department that are essential to providing students with an exceptional Redhawk Residential Experience. The Senior Coordinator manages the selection, onboarding, training, and development of multiple student leader and student employee roles, which provide meaningful opportunities for students to engage in learning and leadership that enhances their learning in the classroom.

The Senior Coordinator for Residential Education serves as the primary advisor for Seattle University's Residence Hall Association, providing guidance and support for the Executive Council, which represents the 2,400 students who live on campus. The Senior Coordinator for Residential Education is highly collaborative, working with Housing & Residence Life staff as well as colleagues in Student & Campus Life to support and promote programs and initiatives that impact the Seattle University student experience.

The Senior Coordinator for Residential Education is a member of the Housing & Residence Life Senior Team and participates in a 24/7/365 on-duty and crisis response rotation supporting the 2,400 students who live on campus.

Essential Functions

Leadership Program Management (40%)

  • Manage recruitment, selection, hiring, and onboarding processes for 100+ student leaders and employees, including Resident Assistants, Desk Coordinators, and Desk Assistants-critical roles in fostering community, supporting safety, and enhancing retention.
  • Coordinate and assist with recruitment, selection, and onboarding for Graduate Assistant positions (Assistant Residential Community Coordinators - ARCCs).
  • Lead recruitment and onboarding for the Summer ACUHO-I Intern a nd Student Development Administration Program Intern.
  • Create training materials and streamline resources that promote successful collaboration among community teams (RCCs, ARCCs, Residential Ministers, Faculty Fellows), contributing to a seamless and supportive residential experience.
  • Serve as the primary advisor for the Residence Hall Association (RHA), providing leadership formation through developmental support, coaching, and modeling responsible fiscal stewardship.
  • Attend and assist with managing RHA-sponsored events.
  • Monitor the RHA budget and mentor students in budget management within their leadership roles. Coordinate vendor agreements and contracts on behalf of RHA in accordance with university policies.
  • Maintain engagement with PACURH and NACURH to remain current on student leadership trends and resources.
  • Develop and facilitate training for Hall Council Advisors, equipping them to support leadership development initiatives within the residence halls.
  • Work collaboratively with the HRL Leadership Team to facilitate a departmental Student Leader Community Council, as needed.
  • Coordinate and facilitate student leader and employee celebrations and recognition efforts (e.g., Employee of the Quarter, End-of-Year Celebrations, Of the Month recognition).
  • Supervise the Summer ACUHO-I Intern and the Student Development Administration Intern, supporting their professional growth and practical experience.

Residential Education & Learning Initiatives Support (30%)

  • Foster intentional relationships between HRL and faculty through listening sessions, focus groups, and community events that support student academic success and engagement.
  • Assist with implementation and evaluation of HRL's strategic plan to improve students' residential experience, learning beyond the classroom, and to promote student success and retention.
  • Assess and enhance systems for faculty engagement in the Redhawk Residential Experience (RRE), contributing to a comprehensive, integrated learning environment.
  • Collaborate with Capstone On Campus Management on the Cornish College of the Arts campus on various residential education initiatives.

Training Program Management (20%)

  • Coordinate and lead training and formation programs for Desk Coordinators and Desk Assistants in partnership with the Associate Director of Housing Operations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Resident Assistant Formation in collaboration with members of the Senior Team and Lead Team (e.g., Formation Nights), ensuring alignment with campus safety and student development outcomes.
  • Attend Resident Assistant training sessions and quarterly in services.
  • Coordinate and facilitate quarterly Graduate Assistant professional development sessions.
  • Manage, maintain, and update the student staff accountability matrix and process for all HRL undergraduate student positions, reinforcing consistent expectations that support community standards and safety.

Other Duties (10%)

  • Serve as part of the Senior Team 24/7/365 on-call duty rotation, providing consultation to on-call RAs and responding to incidents affecting student safety and wellbeing. Note that on-call responsibilities may occur on weekends and holidays.
  • Serve on departmental committees, task forces, and project teams as assigned.
  • Serve on Student & Campus Life and broader university committees and working groups assigned.
  • Attend staff meetings, quarterly in services, retreats, and other training as directed.
  • Attend high profile programs and events on both the SU and CCA campuses as directed and maintain a high level of visibility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Support approximately 1-2 students referred to the CARE Team each week by providing direct support, coaching, mentorship, and referrals to campus and community resources. Maintain case notes and information in the Maxient and Slate for Student Success systems, provide timely updates to the Office of the Dean of Students and other relevant parties, and follow up with assigned students as needed or requested.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences, psychology, education, or related field and two or more years of professional experience in an educational setting demonstrating responsibility for assisting with the full range of responsibilities associated with Residential Life programs, services, operations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity issues and social justice is essential.

  • All positions require a criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or related field and two years of previous experience in residence life programs, services, and operations or other student development and educational settings demonstrating responsibility for managing recruitment and selection processes.
  • The ideal applicant will possess the ability to use student learning and development theory, a commitment to being student-centered, and the concepts of community, service and social justice, diversity, academic and campus life integration, and holistic development.
  • Excellent interpersonal, crisis management, managerial, and community development skills are necessary as well as an understanding and/or openness to the values of Jesuit/Catholic Higher Education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of student development and leadership theories, especially as they apply to residential education.
  • Strong understanding of risk management and student safety protocols in a residential setting.
  • Familiarity with best practices in recruitment, selection, and supervision of student staff.
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and how they intersect with student identity development.
  • Understanding of higher education systems, including student retention strategies, academic support frameworks, and faculty engagement.
  • Awareness of the Jesuit educational mission and values, and how to translate them into residential learning environments.
  • Budget management fundamentals, especially as applied to student organizations and programmatic planning.

Skills:

  • Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to mentor, coach, and support diverse student populations.
  • Strong facilitation and training skills, particularly in delivering developmental and leadership content to student staff and leaders.

Compensation at a Glance

Salary Range: $23.00 -$25.00 per hour

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
