Job Summary:
The Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC) seeks a faculty member with training and expertise in biostatistics at the Assistant or Associate Research Professor rank. This position will provide biostatistics consulting and collaboration for researchers at the BDC. This is a key research-faculty position in the Department of Pediatrics of the Colorado School of Medicine, and will provide biostatistics support on a variety of research studies. These include investigator-initiated studies, industry-sponsored studies, and non-profit-sponsored studies from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, Helmsley Charitable Trust, Breakthrough T1D, and the American Diabetes Association. The primary focus of these studies is the etiology, treatment, and complications of type 1 diabetes (T1D). As part of the data management and analytics team, the person in this Biostatistician faculty position will play a crucial role in managing and analyzing data to support these important research initiatives.
This position is part of the planned expansion of the biostatistical faculty team at the BDC, and will provide support and some supervision to other biostatistical faculty at the BDC. The person in this position will work with investigators on all biostatistical aspects of the research process including the design of new studies, structuring data collection systems, data reduction and analysis, and preparation of abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts. In this environment, the BDC Biostatistical faculty will interact and collaborate with other biostatistics faculty on applied research projects throughout the University.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and perform statistical analysis for T1D clinical and epidemiological studies
- Collaborate with faculty and researchers at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes on analysis of data for abstracts, manuscripts and presentations
- Contribute to writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, writing abstracts for presentations at national and international meetings, and contribute to writing analysis plans for grant submissions.
- Perform power calculations and prepare data analysis plans for grant submission to federal (National Institutes of Health) and foundation funding agencies
- Provide general consulting in data collection and analysis methodology to Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes faculty and researchers (grants, protocol review, study design, power and sample size, data analysis, abstracts, manuscripts)
- Teach special topic workshops or seminar series on biostatistical methods, and provide training and mentorship to Fellows and students as needed in statistical methods.
- Create randomization schemes and produce reports/manuscripts for clinical trials as well as data safety and monitoring board (DSMB) reporting as required.
- Design and implement data quality assurance plans, and use analytic software to merge data from a variety of sources and formats
Work Location:
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado. After an initial in person period of 3-6 months, the role would be eligible for a hybrid schedule.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Research Professor or Associate Research Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:
Assistant Professor:
- This position requires a PhD degree in biostatistics (received or imminent) plus two years of experience in biostatistical consulting (preferably in an academic setting) or in a hospital, CRO or pharmaceutical setting.
Associate Professor:
- The rank of Associate Professor requires a minimum of a PhD degree in biostatistics plus at least six years of experience in biostatistical consulting in a hospital, CRO or pharmaceutical setting, or an academic position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience collaborating on peer-reviewed publications and/or grant proposals
- Preference is given to candidates with experience working on Federal or non-profit foundation grants.
- Research experience or interest in diabetes is preferred, and experience in randomized clinical trials and/or analysis of diabetes technology (continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps, automated insulin delivery systems) would be an advantage.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Technical skills required include statistical modeling (survival, logistic regression, GLM and longitudinal data analysis) and a strong knowledge of SAS or R statistical software. Candidates must be able to write up the statistical section in publications and grant applications, and be able to handle multiple projects with various principal investigators simultaneously, within vigorous timelines. They must also have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team atmosphere.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:
Assistant Professor: $120,000 to $150,000
Associate Professor: $150,000 to $175,000
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
