Job Summary:
Office of Research Development & Strategy (ORD&S) is seeking a Data Analyst responsible for analyzing the University of Colorado Anschutz's research funding portfolio, identifying trends and developing analytics aimed at extramural research funding, and preparing reports and projections based on this analysis. The successful candidate will coordinate with leadership from the ORD&S to review research data, financial information and prepare forecasts in research trends. The Data Analyst assists in the design and development of dashboards for decision-making and evaluation purposes. The Data Analyst also assists in the development of standard reports made available to CU Anschutz Executive Leadership as well as the broader CU Anschutz research community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate research activity reports and analyze data collected from GAMS, Dimensions and Business Intelligence (BI) system, as well as other data repositories.
- Portfolio analytics: Determine trends of grant proposals, awards and expenditures by maintaining activity records and comparisons on a quarterly and annual basis
- Develop portfolio specific dashboards and update the dashboard on a biannual basis unless otherwise requested.
- Provide research data for the annual research reports and as requested.
- Check and maintain data integrity and data validation.
- Compile research activity data across CU Anschutz Research enterprise (by site/location, institute, Department and PI)
- Investigate new and stay apprised of existing national data analytics resources available to the research community NIH RePORTER, Federal RePORTER.
Work Location:
Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of one day per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
- At least three (3) years of extensive, diverse and progressively responsible experience, including direct responsibility for business data analytics from multiple systems, dashboard development, and maintaining data integrity and validation
- Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or other advanced degree in computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
- Prior experience with research data analytics at an academic or other healthcare institution.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Basic SQL skills or equivalent computer language skills and understanding of relational database concepts, including primary keys, foreign keys, and joins.
- Proficiency and demonstrated experience with report writing and data visualization tools, such as Excel, PowerBI, Tableau, or Microsoft SSRS.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong presentation skills
- Ability to work independently with attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize duties and meet multiple deadlines
- Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $76,299 - $97,052
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
