Job Summary:

The Office of Research Development & Strategy (ORD&S) under the Vice Chancellor for Research at CU Anschutz, guides faculty in the pursuit of research funding, the formation of cross-disciplinary science initiatives, and the development of collaborative, team-science research. Our goal is to catalyze collaborations, improve funding success, and grow the CU Anschutz extramural funding portfolio and Anschutz Acceleration Initiatives (AAI).

This 1.0 FTE Program Coordinator position will report to the Assistant Director of Intramural Research and assist the Assistant Director with management of the Anschutz Acceleration Initiative (AAI) research portfolio. The AAI portfolio includes large research projects (collective $50M investment) that support the rapid advancement of high-risk, high-reward healthcare innovations spanning disciplines and diseases that are poised to make direct patient impact within the next 3 to 5 years. Advanced project management is required to ensure each research project within the AAI portfolio achieves defined milestones and outcomes on schedule and on budget, emergent challenges are proactively identified and addressed to prevent scientific delays, required collaborations and partnerships are secured, and projects are sustainable beyond the given funding period.

As the office continues to grow, the Program Coordinator will also work under the direction of the Assistant Director to develop and implement special projects. Projects may include tools and resources that support the university's research community with the development of grants and contracts and/or education programs and projects that serve to advance the university's funding portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

The following duties and responsibilities will be under the guidance and support of the Assistant Director for Intramural Research and include but are not limited to:
  • Identify and develop Scientific Advisory Boards (SABs) for each project team.
  • Establish SAB review criteria for each project team, which will drive progress reporting requirements, every 6 months or as needed.
  • Develop summary statements for AAI senior leadership committee/board based on progress reports.
  • Track revisions to research milestones, roadmaps, and timelines for each awarded project and ensure revisions are reflected within progress reports.
  • Ensure mitigation plans are incorporated when needed and documented as a component of the progress report(s).
  • Organize regular research progress report meetings for each research team and SAB, every 6 months or as needed.
  • Develop dashboards for tracking research outcomes, performance indicators, and other measures that drive successful execution of deliverables.
  • Utilize project management tools for reporting and communicating direction and progress to internal teams and external stakeholders (component of progress reports).
  • Strategize innovative mechanisms to sustain research projects through partnerships and extramural funding.
  • Ensure coordination between all oversight teams engaged in the AAI initiative.

Special Projects

Assist the ORDS team with specific projects such as:
  • Develop and ongoing maintenance/growth of a virtual grant library.
  • Organization and coordination of large events (e.g., recognition events, team building events, federal site visits)
  • Develop and implement targeted research training and education programs that align with campus funding initiatives and the office's strategic plan (e.g., programs to enhance NIH R01 and team science success rates, utilization of the Pivot funding database, socializing research with extramural funders including NIH/ARPA-H).

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 2 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in public health, public administration, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, nursing, healthcare, finance, accounting, business administration, business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

For Senior Professional Level
  • Two years of professional level experience coordinating complex projects or programs

For Principal Professional Level
  • Three years of professional level experience coordinating complex projects or programs.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

For Senior Professional Level
  • Two years' experience working with databases and project management systems.

For Principal Professional Level
  • Three years' experience working with databases and project management systems.
  • Experience working within an academic or biomedical environment.

For Senior Professional level - $55,368 - $70,724

For Principal Professional level - $63,673 - $80,992

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
