Job Summary:
  • Eastern Washington University is currently seeking an Assistant Volleyball Coach in our athletic department. This coaching appointment is responsible for assisting the head coach and helping to manage other assistant coaches and managers with the planning and administration of all aspects of the Division I volleyball program at EWU. In addition, this position will have primary responsibilities in the organization of recruiting coordinator, video coordinator, scouting breakdowns, player development, and organization and planning of team travel, while assisting in all other aspects of the volleyball program.

    The salary for this position is $45,000 (minimum) up to $49,000. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree
Three (3) years of volleyball coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level or five (5) years of coaching at any college level, or commensurate experience.
Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within the first 60 days of employment.
Must be able to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test for off-campus recruiting within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter.
Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Three (3) years of experience as a Head or Assistant Volleyball Coach at the collegiate level.
Four (4) years of volleyball playing experience at the collegiate level.
Previous work experience in the Big Sky Conference.
Recruiting experience at the collegiate level.
Experience and a clear understanding of recruiting software University Athlete.
Comprehensive video experience with Data Volley and Volleymetrics.

Job Duties:
COACHING/PROGRAM DUTIES
  • Work with the head coach in the planning and organization of appropriate pre-season, in-season, post-season, and off-season team activities including, but not limited to, practice planning, game management and in-game adjustments.
  • Serve as primary video coordinator for team, including video of home practices & matches, while maintaining knowledge of applicable game breakdown software.
  • Execute thorough scouting reports of opponents through video breakdown and present to Head Coach in a timely manner.
  • Provide consultation, instruction and expertise to head coach, assistant coach & team members.
  • Facilitate learning of proper skill execution and safety techniques.
  • Stay up-to-date on current trends in coaching and teaching skills.
  • Meet with head coach daily to plan practices, competition and other team matters.
  • Establish the academic requirements for student-athletes and monitor their academic progress at all times.

RECRUITING DUTIES
  • In collaboration with Head Coach, oversee all aspects of recruiting efforts and develop policies and procedures to ensure volleyball program compliance with NCAA rules and regulations regarding recruiting.
  • Make recommendations to Head Coach for all grant-in-aid awards.
  • Arrange travel for coaches for all off-campus recruiting.
  • Organize all aspects of official visits for prospective student-athletes.
  • Liaise with Athletics Compliance office to ensure all appropriate communications are recorded and paperwork completed per NCAA, Big Sky Conference & EWU rules & regulations.
  • Work with Athletics Business Office on maintaining recruiting budget & communicate in advance any possible issues that might arise.

RULES COMPLIANCE
  • Agree to comply with all applicable NCAA rules and regulations as provided in NCAA Division I Manual.
  • Become familiar with all applicable Big Sky Conference and Eastern Washington University rules and regulations and agree to comply with them within the confines of this job description.
  • Work directly with Athletic Compliance staff in the knowledge and enforcement of all applicable rules and regulations.
  • Maintain coaching status by successfully completing recruiting exam each year.

  • Other duties as assigned by Head Volleyball Coach.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Overnight travel will be required for a minimum of twenty-five (25) nights per year for team competition and recruiting. Evenings and weekends as needed due to sport schedule.
  • Applicants must be able to maintain to a thorough knowledge of NCAA and institutional rules, regulations and policies, and must annually pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test for off-campus recruiting.
  • Rules compliance is an important responsibility of this position. Employee shall support and comply with all applicable rules and regulations of the NCAA, the Big Sky Conference, and other established bodies that govern intercollegiate athletics and the University. In the event the Employee becomes aware, or has reasonable cause to believe, that violations of rules compliance may have taken place, Employee shall report same promptly to the Athletic Director, Compliance Office, or his/her designee.

  • This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

All new employees must comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
