Job Summary:
Eastern Washington University is currently seeking an Assistant OR Associate Athletic Trainer for Football. This position is housed in the athletic department and will report to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine. The Assistant Athletic Trainer supervises the care of student athletes competing in the Universitys Athletic programs, working primarily with Volleyball, while working with additional programs at the discretion of their supervisor. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries within the Universitys comprehensive sports medicine program.

The salary for this position is $42,000 (minimum) up to $60,000. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. Required Qualifications:
For Assistant Athletic Trainer:
  • Masters degree
  • Minimum of one (1) year certified experience
  • Certifications from BOC
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • Experience with therapeutic exercise and manual therapy techniques
  • Communication with sport staff (physicians, strength and conditioning, coaches, and admin)
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.
  • License issued by the Washington State Department of Health, or the ability to receive license prior to start date.

For Associate Athletic Trainer:
  • All requirements listed for Assistant Athletic Trainer
  • Experience with athletic training administration duties
  • 2+ years of experience
  • Athletic training experience at the NCAA Division I level or commensurate experience

Job Duties:


ASSIST IN THE OVERALL SUPERVISION OF A DIVISION I SPORTS MEDICINE PROGRAM.
Prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses.
Evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries.
Providing counseling and education to student athletes.
Work with doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver care to student athletes.
Be the lead athletic trainer for assigned sports.Percent of Time: 50

Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete for assigned sports programs.
Work in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual athlete needs for assigned sports programs.
Schedule and coordinate athletic training staff and students for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions for assigned sports programs.Percent of Time: 20

Assist with coordination and scheduling for medical coverage for home and away competition for assigned sport programs.
Assist with the supervision, education and recruitment of student athletic trainers and graduate assistant athletic trainer.Percent of Time: 15

Keep records and documentation of student-athlete injuries and rehabilitation.Percent of Time: 10

Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.Percent of Time: 5
Conditions of Employment:
  • Travel may be required a minimum of fifteen (15) nights per year for team competition.
  • Applicants must be able to maintain a thorough knowledge of NCAA and institutional rules, regulations and policies.
  • Rules compliance is an important responsibility of this position. Employee shall support and comply with all applicable rules and regulations of the NCAA, the Big Sky Conference, and other established bodies that govern intercollegiate athletics and the University.
  • This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
  • All new employees must comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
