Full-time Tenure Track: Bunker Hill Community College invites applicants for two full-time faculty positions in the Computer Science department. Our program gives students a solid foundation in programming and prepares them for transfer to 4-year programs in Computer Science as well as entry directly into the workforce. We seek faculty who demonstrate a passion for teaching and a desire to join a department that is focused on expanding current and creating new strategies for student success. Candidates should be enthusiastic educators who can facilitate the needs of diverse 21st century learners (including advising and mentoring) and who value interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues. Successful candidates may be assigned courses at one or more of the College's locations. Applicants must have proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population.
Position Description: Full time Computer Science instructor in the Computer Science Department (CS). Responsible for curriculum development, student advisement, and teaching Computer Science courses.
Specific Duties:
- Teach Computer Science courses such as Introduction to Computer Science, C++ Programming, Python Programming, SQL Programming, JAVA Programming, Data Structures, and other languages as necessary.
- Participate in ongoing curriculum review, assessment, development and modification, and alignment with Computer Science programs at 4-year schools.
- Develop instructional material consistent with course objectives and student learning outcomes and competencies
- Participate in on-going professional development.
- Use new technologies in the classroom to supplement instruction as well as teach in different modalities such as online, hybrid, web enhanced and learning community seminars.
- Use problem based learning, reflective writing, task-based, case-based learning (TBCBL), as well as classroom group/team work to develop critical thinking and other employability skills.
- Stay abreast of changes in technology and incorporate that learning into the curriculum.
- Advise students regarding academic progress, internships, and transfer and career options.
- Actively participate as a faculty member in the general College community and fulfill duties as stipulated in the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Job Requirements:
- Master's Degree; doctorate degree preferred; a strong combination of education and industry experience will be considered
- Ability to teach a variety of courses including, but not limited to: C++ Programming, Python Programming, SQL Programming, JAVA Programming, Data Structures
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and students population
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
Preferred Requirements:
- Our students come from a variety of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and we are dedicated to providing them with the support they need to succeed. While not required, the ability to read, speak, and write in Spanish or another language is preferred.
- Related programming, cybersecurity, AI, or data science industry experience strongly preferred.
- Community College or 4-Year College teaching experience preferred.
- Teaching experience, professional experience or research related to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or cloud-based computing preferred.
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $75,000.00-$80,000.00 Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate with Education & Experience in Accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
