Job Summary
The Fiske Planetarium at CU Boulder is encouraging applications for the On-Site Education Lead position! The Fiske On-Site Education Lead is responsible for working closely under the Fiske Theater & Education Manager to ensure the smooth functioning of all on-site theater and education programs for the wide range of Fiske visitors, clients, and collaborators. Specifically, the Fiske On-Site Education Lead facilitates the training and mentoring of student educators, lead or assist in the development and improvement of on-site educational programs, support on-site education infrastructure, run a wide variety of on-site educational programs, coordinate CU faculty use of the Fiske theater, produce digital assets for internal and external clients, oversee and coordinate educational exhibits at Fiske, and assist with specialty projects. This position frequently engages directly with K-12 students, members of the general public, CU faculty and students, external collaborators and clients, and Fiske staff. The individual should be self-driven and passionate about informal astronomy education (and other STEM education as applicable). A qualified candidate will have experience as an informal or formal educator, strong interpersonal skills, and a relatively extensive knowledge of astronomy.

Who We Are
Fiske Planetarium is a 206-seat digital full dome theater facility that also produces full dome content distributed to planetariums across the globe. The facility annually serves over 70,000 individuals, including 6,000 undergraduates attending class at Fiske, 16,000 K-12 students participating on fieldtrips and outreach events, and 50,000 members of the public who attend evening shows. Fiske employs roughly 10 full time staff and more than two dozen undergraduate student employees. The unit is housed within the Department of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
On-Site Coordination
- Work collaboratively with Fiske staff to implement feedback collection and analysis of on-site programs to guide improvements to existing theater shows and educational programs.
- Coordinate with CU faculty to support their use of the Fiske theater to serve CU classes.
- Work collaboratively with Fiske staff to develop and implement new ideas and techniques for theater shows and educational programs.
On-Site Programs
- Present educational planetarium shows and lead educational activities for a wide variety of visitors when student educators are not available.
- Oversee shift scheduling for theater and education programs and maintain on-site education infrastructure such as training and support resources for student educators.
- Produce digital assets for the planetarium for internal and external clients.
- Manage the creation, implementation, and maintenance of educational exhibits in the Fiske Gallery.
- Maintain and improve materials used for on-site educational programs.
- Assist with specialty theater and education projects as needed.
Team Training and Development
- Provide training for undergraduate student-staff in the areas of education and public presentation and lead a peer mentoring program to support the continued growth of student educators.
- Support the Fiske Theater & Education Manager in the hiring of undergraduate student educators.
Other
- Assist with other tasks related to planetarium program development and on-site education as needed.

- This is a limited-term position that extends for 2 years from the official start date.
- This position offers the opportunity for hybrid work requiring regular onsite attendance, as needed.

The salary range for this position is $54,060-$57,325 annually.

What We Require
- Bachelor's degree in astronomy, education, or a related STEM field.
- At least 1+ years of experience in STEM education, with an emphasis on both formal and informal settings, including program coordination and public engagement.
- Experience with planetarium shows or similar audiovisual educational programs.

- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with a variety of professionals, administrators, and students.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and assume responsibility for initiating and completing critical functions in the operation of educational programs.

- Ability to adapt quickly under pressure.
- Proficient computer knowledge and skills with Microsoft Suite and Google Drive Applications, as well as with folder and file structures.
- Experience with the creation, implementation, and management of educational exhibits or public-facing interactive content.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students in a higher education setting.
- Proven commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational programs.
- Leadership skills, with experience in training, mentoring, or supervising undergraduate student staff.
- Willingness to travel for professional development and outreach opportunities.
