The Information Technology Services department of the Long Beach Community College District is seeking highly-qualified individuals to be our Multimedia Services Specialist! The entry-level technical class in the multimedia services class series. Under general supervision, incumbents learn and perform the full range of multimedia, system maintenance and repair duties. Incumbents work in a fast-paced environment requiring creative problem-solving skills to resolve last minute audiovisual emergencies and requests in instructional and business services locations.

Multimedia Services Specialist is distinguished from Senior Multimedia Services Specialist in that incumbents in the latter class are responsible for coordinating the daily operations of an assigned Multimedia Services staff and implementing department operational policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure the availability, security and proper maintenance of District multimedia systems and equipment.

AT-A-GLANCE POSITION INFORMATION
  • Type of position: Part-time (18 hours/week)
  • Position Status: Permanent
  • Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - 2pm-8pm
  • Location: Will support both campuses, the Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) and Trades, Technology, and Community Learning Campus (TTC), but will be located at the Trades, Technology, and Community Learning Campus (TTC)
  • Salary: Range 32, $2,441.44 - $3,008.64 Monthly
  • Eligibility list: Will be valid for 12 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications.
  • Advanced salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Duties


GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, performs complex and responsible systems and network support and administration functions for District computers, servers, and network operating system platforms; installs and configures servers, workstations and other devices; provides second- and third-level problem resolution and technical support services to information technology customers for the operation and use of personal computer and peripheral equipment, local and wide area networks, Internet and Intranet services and various server platform connections; and performs related duties as assigned.



DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, performs technical support for campus multimedia systems, equipment and activities; organizes and schedules the use of multimedia equipment and meeting rooms; provides training and technical support to faculty and staff on the operation and use of instructional technology and multimedia systems and equipment; operates, maintains, tests, troubleshoots and performs minor repairs to multimedia systems and equipment; maintains a working inventory of campus multimedia equipment; and performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
Education, Training and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in information technology, theater design, audio, video or electronics technology, or a closely related field; and one (1) year of responsible experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of multimedia systems and technologies; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.

Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.
