Seeking candidates who can teach a HORTICULTURE 136 - Landscape Design III on Thursday evenings beginning mid-January from 5pm-8:55pm. This is a project oriented class. Focus will be given to advancing the students skills in landscape design including; plant selection, graphics, hardscapes, amenities, and presentation techniques. Students will complete projects from start to finish. Other aspects of the landscape designer's role will be covered.
Under the supervision of the Dean of Community Education or designee, while located at the Mequon Campus and surrounding areas, to plan, develop and revise a program of instruction and to teach landscape-horticulture through a variety of modalities. Subject matter includes any landscape horticulture topics. Related duties include acquisition of supplies and equipment, and upkeep of laboratory facilities and equipment.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
- Manage the classroom/laboratory.
- Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program/department evaluation.
- Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
- Assess student performance.
- Advise students on academic issues.
- Collaborate with advisory committee in program/department area.
- Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
- Promote the education/training program/department, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to promote educational opportunities at MATC.
- Support student organizations and activities.
- Develop relationships with business and industry.
- Complete program/department evaluation and follow-up.
- Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Only those who meet all of the base minimum requirements listed below will be considered.
REQUIRED Minimum Educational and Occupational Experience (all listed conditions must be met)
- Associate degree or higher in any subject AND;
- At least two (2) years of full-time or equivalent (4,000 hours) experience in Horticulture or a related field.
- At least one year (2,000 hours) of work experience must have occurred within the last five years. OR;
- At least two years (4,000 hours) of teaching in one or more of the areas listed above at the postsecondary level within the last five years.
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- Pesticide Application Certified by WDATCP (Wisconsin Dept. of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection)
- National Association of Landscape Professionals, NALP Certified in any of the NALP Industry Certifications
- International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist

- Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology
- Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (eg. social networking applications)
Supplemental Information
Start Date: This position supports the Manufacturing, Construction, and Transportation Pathway and is available to start during our Spring 2025 semester- mid January. Seeking candidates who can teach a HORTICULTURE 136 - Landscape Design III is on Thursday evenings 5pm-8:55pm.
.Hours:/Location: This is a part-time pool position and the number of hours and shift worked per week will vary based on course load and departmental need. This in-person teaching position will be location at our Mequon campus. For the spring 2025 class availability would need to be Thursday evenings 5pm-8:55pm
.Salary: Beginning in the fall of 2024 the starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable unless market conditions dictate otherwise.
