The Environmental Engineering Microbiology & Disinfection Lab at the University of Colorado is seeking a Sr. Research Associate to continue the ongoing sponsored research and see it to its conclusion. This position will be responsible for characterizing surfactants and associated bioaerosols/biochemicals (including hydrophobic allergens) in the indoor atmospheric environment.

Mark Hernandez is the S J Archuleta Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering; he directs the Environmental Engineering Microbiology and Disinfection Lab at the University of Colorado. This lab focuses on the characterization and control of microbiological air pollution and microbially induced corrosion. The lab develops genetic, biochemical and toxicological techniques to assess the efficacy of engineering interventions in sectors of sanitary engineering and industrial hygiene that are relevant to environmental health. There is special focus on aerobiology science for wide-area surveillance, indoor cleaning technology and the design of aerosol disinfection systems in the built environment.


What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Quantify the surface active fractions of aerosols from both indoor and outdoor air samples, including selected allergenic fractions.
  • Prepare written summary of findings, conclusions, and recommendations for sponsor.
  • Candidate will be responsible for supervision of undergraduate researcher on the project.

What We Require

  • PhD in environmental engineering, molecular biology or related field.
  • Post-doctoral experience with (bio)aerosol science.
  • Candidates must have existing authorization to work in the US. Candidates without existing work authorization in the US will not be considered.
