The University of Cincinnati is currently accepting applications for a Computer Systems Administrator. This position is part of a dynamic team that is responsible for providing system administration for several systems including UC's learning system (Blackboard), ePortfolio system (Mahara), and course evaluation system (CoursEval). These systems consist of multiple Intel-based servers primarily running Red Hat Linux and Oracle.





Duties include, but are not limited to, planning and installing application and software upgrades, system monitoring and tuning, advanced user support, database administration and software development.





This position does require occasional late-night or weekend work and will rotate 24/7 on-call support with other team members.  

Job Description: The majority of duties performed in this IT Broadband class include installing, maintaining, and modifying operating systems, database management systems, utilities, and related software. Other key duties include ensuring the availability, integrity, and reliability of assigned systems. Positions in this IT Broadband class are primarily responsible for large-scale operating systems and database management systems that typically serve the entire campus or large multi-unit departments. Positions in this IT Broadband class typically do not write applications software as a majority function.  

Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related degree and 3 years of experience; or an associate degree with 5 years of experience; or a combination of relevant education and 7 years of experience.  

Position Qualifications:At least one year of working experience with system administration. Experience with Oracle, MS-SQL server, or MySQL. Ability to write scripts using languages such as PHP, JSP, or ASP.  

The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years working experience with Red Hat Linux and system administration.
