Job Summary:

The Olin Library at Rollins College is seeking an Electronic Resources Librarian to join their team! Under the direction of the Head of Collections, the Electronic Resources Librarian will provide expertise in and strategically plan for the future of electronic resources and serials. Key responsibilities include vendor negotiation, budget forecasting and tracking, continuous review of E-collections, and working as a team with the Discovery & Systems Administrator and Digital Archivist on assigned projects as needed. The Electronic Resources Librarian will manage, develop, and utilize a number of systems and applications necessary for delivering our collections virtually to library researchers both on and off campus, and ensure that the library collections most effectively and efficiently support college curricular needs and scholarly endeavors. The librarian in this position also participates in research consultation, undergraduate library instruction, and liaison work and holds a courtesy faculty appointment in Olin Library.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Electronic Resources & Serials
    • Provides leadership and expertise in managing and strategically planning for the serials and electronic resources collection
    • Maintains administrative metadata on electronic resources and serials
    • Negotiates and secures contracts and licenses for electronic resources and subscriptions across formats, including price quotes and trial access; research and liaise as appropriate with open access providers, while acting as primary contact for electronic resource vendors
    • Manages licensing, contracts, and related data using SharePoint, Alma, and LibInsight
    • Collaborates with the Discovery & Systems Administrator in the deployment and troubleshooting of electronic resources and resolves problems with local systems, publishers, vendors, or consortia which requires a high level of effective communication
    • Compiles data and completes external reports for library management and selected agencies
    • Works with Head of Collections to provide the librarians with reports, including cost and usage, of subscription resources and open access initiatives as part of annual e-resource and serials review; coordinates regular database reviews
    • Provides a high level of personal contact and communicates on a daily basis with faculty, students, staff, and external service providers including serial and electronic resource publishers, vendors, and content providers; manages database trials for the library and institution
    • Collaborates with colleagues to coordinate budget forecasting and management for electronic resources and serials for current and future fiscal years

  • Research Assistance and Instruction
    • Provides research consultation assistance during scheduled hours at the Olin Library
    • Provides information literacy instruction including library orientation and general undergraduate instruction
    • Works with faculty members to develop a professional and contextually appropriate collection in all formats across disciplines
    • Participates in library liaison outreach program to assigned academic departments and holds a courtesy faculty appointment to the Olin Library
    • Supports digital scholarship initiatives as needed
    • Takes initiative to identify and facilitate ongoing communication and build relationships with stakeholders (e.g. academic departments, administrative departments, programs, and organizations) within the Rollins community on matters related to Library electronic resources
Minimum
Qualifications & Education:

  • An MLS from an ALA-accredited library school
  • Experience in an academic library and work experience that indicates an ability to manage electronic resources and serials
  • Experience in undergraduate library instruction and research assistance
  • Experience with electronic serials and resource management, including electronic resource management systems
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing
  • Ability to collect, manage, analyze, and communicate numerical information accurately and clearly
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently
  • Skills in the use of a variety of computer software used in the library; demonstrated knowledge and experience with electronic and web-based resources and systems; strong skills with Excel
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, and an ability to manage multiple projects at one time and through to completion
  • An appreciation for the liberal arts and the role of the library in higher education
  • Ability to manage and lead change in a rapidly developing library environment
  • Experience with teaching and information literacy instruction with groups and individuals
Preferred
Qualifications:
  • Second master's degree in an academic discipline
  • Knowledge of scholarly publishing and licensing trends in academic libraries; ability to liaise with library vendors; knowledge of open access, open licensing, copyright, and fair use
Work Environment:

  • Front-facing customer service role on-campus. Office and library environment requiring frequent sitting and desk-based tasks.
  • Work requires some visual strain with use of computer.
  • Work may require some physical strain when lifting or moving fifteen- to fifty-pound boxes of documents.
