The Director of Creative Services serves as the lead on multi-channel or multimedia design efforts, print and digital, for Lawrence University as well as internal clients, providing brand oversight and guidance for creative initiatives from across the university. The Director will lead and work with the collaborators, and other design resources to support institutional priorities and enhance the university's reputation and to maintain brand standards. This position encompasses a diverse portfolio of duties, tasks, and opportunities to design, create, and deliver required a well-versed creative, leader and highly skilled multichannel designer familiar with a dynamic environment.


An integral member of the university's storytelling team, the Director will oversee and create compelling, engaging, and compelling visual design and content that effectively tells the Lawrence story in engaging and broad-reaching ways, raising Lawrence's visibility and reputation as a college and conservatory of international renown and supports institutional priorities including enrollment, fund raising and strategic priorities. The Director manages the university's brand resources and licensing program to ensure consistency and compelling outcomes.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:




    • Responsible for leading high-profile design projects, including work with Admissions, Development, Alumni & Constituent Relations, and other offices and university initiatives and priorities.

    • Responsible for ensuring all multichannel designs remain on brand and meet the strategic vision of the university including development and oversight of the university's branding guidelines, training, and resources.

    • Monitor and supervise creative services team, projects, deadlines, and budget, (currently undergoing restructuring).

    • Collaborates with a university-wide partnership of creators, communicators and others to ensure the main university website, www.lawrence.edu, is on brand, up-to-date, and reflects current digital design best practices and trends.

    • Oversee the design of main institutional environmental signage, including banners, interior signage, and other needs.

    • Design digital and print collateral in support of university initiatives, including advertising, social media graphics, media guides, posters, t-shirts, large format, and a variety of promotional materials.

    • Oversee the university's licensing program to assure all merchandise and promotional products reflects the university's brand,

    • Maintain relationships with key vendors to assist with university projects.





KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:


  1. A great eye for design and a strong understanding of design principles and best practices, both print and digital.

  2. A passion for design and branding in a fast-paced higher education setting,

  3. Ability to think strategically and creatively and stay abreast of the latest creative trends; to develop, articulate and lead the implementation of long and short-term plans to meet goals and objectives.

  4. Familiarity with digital content management systems and web programming tools, including HTML and CSS.

  5. Demonstrated proficiency working with graphic design programs, including the Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.

  6. Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to work independently as well as a collaborator.

  7. Able to exercise sound judgment, quick decision-making, effective problem-solving and prioritization skills, and efficient multitasking.

  8. Effective interpersonal skills, strong work ethic and a positive, solutions-oriented professional attitude.

  9. Understanding of higher education culture and the value of liberal arts and sciences.

  10. Commitment to Lawrence University's values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  11. Bachelor's degree and progressively responsible multi-channel design responsibilities.

  12. Develop and manage portfolio of student designers and producers.

  13. Occasional evening and weekend work to support university events and initiatives.
