Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Director, the Assistant Director of Financial Aid supervises the overall management and direction of Financial Aid Assistants, manages the Federal Work Study Program and formulates procedures for functional areas to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely delivery of information that is in compliance with Federal, State and Institutional regulations and supports Departmental and Student Affairs objectives. This position ensures institutional integrity and ethical standards that govern financial aid programs at the federal, state and university level.

  • Management of Assistants includes but not limited to the scheduling of staff to provide coverage of the front counter, telephones, chat and email accounts; ensures that daily process workflow objectives are met; monitors Financial Aid Assistants progress, providing training, support and enforces accountability.
  • Ensure quality customer service by providing comprehensive training to all Assistants, continuous evaluation of process and procedures and make improvement recommendations and overseeing Financial Aid webpages on the COD website providing updates and ensuring accuracy of information.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of Federal and State financial aid program regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Advise and counsel students, parents, and the general public regarding financial aid issues and assist students with the completion of their FAFSA application, entrance/exit loan counseling and master promissory note.
  • Advise and counsel students with the admission process, myACCESS, payment arrangements and registration and records questions.
  • Investigate, analyze and resolve escalated inquiries unable to be answered at the Assistant level.
  • Identify and analyze unusual problems pertaining to financial aid with emphasis towards problem resolution and student service.
  • Serve on professional judgment committee and make decisions in concert with policies and procedures in determining student eligibility.
  • Contribute to the implementation and assist in the development, modification and writing Financial Aid policies and procedures for the office.
  • Maintains all forms at the front counter and the front counter training manual.
  • Represents the Senior Director and Associate Director as needed.
  • Promote FWS positions and ensure annual allocations are balanced.
  • Investigate, analyze and resolve possible fraudulent student accounts. Report information to the OIG as necessary
  • In conjunction with the Associate Director of Student Financial Assistance, review emergency applications and make determinations of approval.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Qualifications:

    • Education
      • Bachelor's Degree required.
      • Master's Degree preferred.
    • Experience
      • Good verbal and written communication skills required. 2 to 3 years experience in higher education with a strong customer service background in high traffic contact office required.
      • 3-5 years experience in higher education with a strong customer service background preferred.




    • PC, printer, FAX machine, calculator, photo copier, laser printer, scanner.
    • Work in high traffic office with continual interruptions by both telephone and walk-in inquiries.
    • Must be able to stand on feet for several hours at a time.
    • Lifting of up to 20 - 30 lbs.
    • Saturday and evening hours will be required during peak registration periods.
    • This position requires a background check and drug screen.


    • Pay Grade:
      Managerial 4 Salary-Hiring Range: $ 56,000.00 - 60,000.00
