Job Summary:
We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: IT Business Analyst

Information Technology (IT) provides information resources and technology services to the entire campus community supporting the academic mission. IT also provides technical assistance in the design, acquisition, installation, and maintenance of the campus systems, media, and telecommunications infrastructure, including; desktop computer equipment; institutional databases; enterprise-wide applications; technology-equipped classrooms, distance learning classrooms, telecommunications systems; centralized access to a campus-wide software library, remote online services, open-access and program-specific computer labs, consulting, training, and user support. Information Technology assists University leadership in strategic planning for technology initiatives that strengthen both efficiency and effectiveness.

The IT Business Analyst position performs consulting, needs assessments, and process and business analysis leading to technical process and system optimization. This position documents processes and procedures for existing and future systems/services. This position also identifies and resolves operational problems of selected IT systems.

This position is part of a four-person team and reports to the Project Management and Business Analyst Supervisor. The Project Management and Business Analyst Supervisor reports to the Senior Manager for Enterprise Application Services. The Senior Manager for Enterprise Application Services reports to the Chief Information Officer (CIO).

The salary for this position is $72,816 (minimum) up to $95,568 top salary being offered. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. In addition to salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance and disability insurance and retirement. Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in computer science or information technology or related discipline required. Substantial experience may be substituted for formal education.
  • Two years if experience implementing, managing, and/or administering systems.
  • One year of recent professional experience performing business, process and systems analysis, requirement definition, and/or documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional certifications in Business Analysis.
  • Two years of experience developing in SQL.
  • Experience in using a well-structured life cycle management process for implementation of changes in applicable systems, including experience with project management and configuration management processes.
  • Knowledge and experience working in higher education and/or financial environment with areas dealing with information systems management and support systems.

  • Ability to plan, schedule and coordinate tasks, projects, and workload in collaboration with project manager, senior staff, and supervisor
  • Ability to create and maintain documentation for application/service support, disaster recovery and business continuity based on current accepted IT and departmental practices
  • Ability to collaborate with senior colleagues and supervisor to develop, publish, administer and promote policies, procedures and standards for the department and institution
  • Ability to work with source control tools

Job Duties:

Analyst Duties. Provides analysis support for various business units and systems.

Task(s):
  • Works with stakeholders in conducting and defining needs assessments, configuration specifications, and business analysis, reporting, and alerting requirements; follows structured processes to determine requirements using various types of models or diagrams.
  • Analyzes requested system functionality to identify risks and gaps, which includes providing alternative solutions and making recommendations within scope of generally accepted Business Analysis and learned practices
  • Identifies and creates documentation for systems and users with review from supervisor or senior colleagues
  • Working with staff and stakeholders performs testing and quality assurance.
  • Provides maintenance and operations support of assigned systems
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves minor operational problems that affect supported business units, departments, software modules, and technology areas.
  • Uses existing processes to analyze, evaluate and fully determine the issues and tasks at hand.


Outcome: Elicits business requirements from business stakeholders and translates requirements into functional and technical requirements to create technological solutions.



Project Coordination. Provides project coordination for multiple, routine, small to medium sized IT projects for various business units and systems.
Task(s):
  • Coordinate project management activities, resources, equipment and information in collaboration with supervisor or project manager
  • Break projects into achievable actions and set timeframes
  • Liaise with clients to identify and define requirements, scope and objectives
  • As defined by supervisor or project manager, communicate tasks to internal teams and assist with schedule management
  • Make sure that clients needs are met as projects evolve
  • Monitor project progress and communicate any issues to supervisor or project manager that arise
  • Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants
  • Work with the Project Manager to eliminate blockers
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports with spot checking from supervisor or project manager
  • Assist with conducting quality assurance tests to ensure standards and requirements are met




Outcome: Helping business units deliver IT projects to support institutional goals.
Conditions of Employment:
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
