Overview
The IT Systems Engineer I provides technical services and support for BTC's servers, cloud platforms, mobile devices, and virtual desktops. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and configuring Active Directory, managing user accounts and security, installing and upgrading hardware and software, and automating server processes. The role also covers administering domain and email services, supporting cloud technologies like Azure and Office 365, deploying mobile platforms, managing virtual desktops, documenting procedures, and ensuring maintenance for enterprise antivirus and application deployments.

Responsibilities
Provide technical services, support, and maintenance for BTC Server infrastructure, Hybrid Services, Mobile Platforms, and Virtual Desktops.
- Troubleshoot and configure Active Directory, manage user accounts and security, and maintain the directory structure in coordination with technical staff.
- Install and upgrade hardware and software; manage servers and automate processes.
- Administer and update Domain Services, Hybrid Email (Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Exchange Online).
- Support and troubleshoot Microsoft Azure, Office 365, and other cloud technologies.
- Manage and deploy mobile platforms and applications.
- Manage Virtual Desktops and associated applications and configurations.
- Develop and document installation and configuration procedures.
Provide technical support and maintenance for the Enterprise Anti-virus/spam and Application Deployments
- Administer enterprise endpoint security systems, including antivirus, antispam, and encryption to protect BTC systems and data.
- Support and backup of Endpoint Initiatives and deployments.
- Configure and maintain security platforms, antivirus, and malware protection.
- Maintain hardware, firmware, and software updates for system stability.
Provide technical support coordination and administration function.
- Facilitate effective communication and comprehensive status reporting of project activities to management and cross-functional teams, ensuring thorough documentation.
- Establish and document technology standards in alignment with BTC and industry guidelines.
- Provide recommendations to management regarding process improvements by leveraging existing or emerging technologies for imaging and application packaging/deployment.
- Adhere to the Change Management process to control changes and mitigate their impact on the institution.
- Collaborate with systems engineers and/or vendor technical support to investigate and resolve complex server and network issues.
- Assess technical and college-initiated project proposals and present informed recommendations.
- Maintain complete documentation of system configurations and installation/support procedures.
- Administer, configure, and troubleshoot printers and printer mapping; oversee the print management system and coordinate with vendors as needed.
- Participate in the on-call rotation process.
Provide support for the ITS Help Desk service and operations.
- Oversee and guide helpdesk staff in installing, configuring, and maintaining end-user hardware in labs and offices.
- Provide Tier 2 and 3 support for ITS Help Desk operations.
- Use the ticketing system to fully and promptly document troubleshooting and work order status.
- Quickly research, log, and report hardware/software issues to vendor support.
- Update equipment inventories and maintain configuration and repair logs.
Development and exchange of information beneficial to the College operations
- Lead activities to maintain current knowledge of application technology.
- Deliver staff training and knowledge transfer as required.
- Participate in team meetings and College engagement events.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with diverse populations.
- Strong verbal and written communication and documentation skills.
- Experience working with confidential and sensitive information.
- Practical understanding of the project management process.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of server installation, configuration, security, and administration.
- Knowledge of endpoint administration and application deployments.
- Knowledge and experience in applying patches and upgrades.
- Knowledge and experience with scripting languages PowerShell/VBScript.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange, SQL, and IIS, as well as server security and best practices.
- Experience with Cloud Technologies such as Microsoft Azure, Office 365, and MS SharePoint.
- Demonstrated knowledge and technical skills in supporting network connectivity.
Education & Experience:
- Associate degree in Information Technology or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two (2) years Windows Server, Exchange Server, and Cloud Technologies experience.
- Technical certifications such as MCITP, MCTS and VCP desired.
