Qualifications

A. Education
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; earned baccalaureate degree in nursing.
  • Graduate of an accredited program of nurse anesthesia.
  • Holds a minimum of a doctorate degree.
  • Has a minimum of five years of experience as a nurse anesthetist.
  • Has current and appropriate preparation in administration, instruction; and the educational process.


B. Expertise
  • Maintains current and valid District of Columbia licensure as a professional registered nurse and nurse anesthetist.
  • Meets requirements and maintains recertification by the National Board of Certification & Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists
  • Demonstrates ability to instruct and provide students with knowledge of principles and theory of anesthesia, equipment and techniques.
  • Remains current in theories and methods of instruction by:
  • Current membership in the AANA;
  • Review of current anesthesia literature;
  • Attendance at state, local and national meetings;
  • Maintaining professional clinical privileges and practice of anesthesia


C. Job Relationship
  • Works in cooperation with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director to accomplish duties.
  • Responsible to the Assistant Program Director, Program Director, Vice Dean and the Dean of the School of Nursing.


Core Responsibilities of Assistant Professors in the DNAP Program:

Teaching Responsibilities
  • Provides lectures in multiple DNAP courses and teaches in the simulation and cadaver labs. These lectures and labs are assigned in the semester planning meetings by the Program Director with input from the course coordinators and the DNAP faculty team.
  • Provides test bank questions related to lecture material for both oral and written examinations.
  • Serve as course coordinator of various DNAP courses as assigned by Program Director (usually 1-2 courses per semester).
  • Coordinate the course schedule and develop/manage the Canvas course site.
  • Prepare and administer all course examinations after verification that all lecturers have updated question banks.
  • Notifies the Program Director and Assistant Program Director with any student academic concerns in a timely manner.
  • Issues mid-semester advisories for students achieving less than an 80% in course work.
  • Grades oral exams each semester for each DNAP course as scheduled by the course coordinator.
  • Holds regular office hours.
  • Document all tutoring activities (including exam reviews, office hours, and review sessions) on the tutor log in Box.


Administrative Responsibilities
  • Participates in activities directed at maintaining program accreditation under the direction of the Program Director.
  • Follow all University & SON' and program policies/guidelines -follows established standards.


Meetings and Events
  • Attends SON, DNAP and committee meetings.
  • Participates in all DNAP student, program, and recruitment events (e.g. open houses, graduation activities, etc.).
  • Participates in student interviews and admissions selection committee meetings.
  • Attends the AANA's Assembly of Didactic and Clinical Educators and/or Annual Congress yearly as the DNAP budget permits.


Scholarly activities
  • Publishes a minimum of one peer-reviewed manuscript each year.
  • Mentors DNAP Scholarly Projects as first or second reader as assigned by the Program and Research Directors.


Core Responsibilities of the DNAP Program Research Director

Definition of the Research Director Position
  • In conjunction with the Program Director, assumes responsibility for coordinating the activities pertaining to student scholarly projects.
  • Ensures that scholarly project guidelines and submissions meet the doctoral educational standards and guidelines set forth by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs.


Responsibilities
  • Performs the essential duties of a faculty member as delineated in the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program "Core Responsibilities of All Faculty."
  • With the Program Director coordinates the activities of the Evidence-Based Research Methods courses and Clinical Research Seminar series to ensure that stated objectives and outcomes are achieved.
  • With the Program Director and Assistant Program Director, ensures that scholarly project submissions are in compliance with the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs "White Paper Scholarly Work for Practice Doctorate Nurse Anesthesia Programs: Current State and Guidance: Report from the White Paper on Scholarly Work Special Interest Group" and in compliance with any future updates to the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs guidance on scholarly projects.
  • In conjunction with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director, coordinates didactic instruction for the Evidence-Based Research Methods and Clinical Research Seminar Courses.
  • Participates in didactic instruction for Evidence-Based Research Methods and Clinical Research Seminar Courses.
  • In conjunction with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director, provides approval for all scholarly projects prior to implementation.
  • In conjunction with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director, facilitates the implementation of student scholarly projects.
  • In conjunction with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director, holds conferences with students and provides evaluation and counseling of students regarding scholarly project progression.
  • Provides research updates on the progress of students at monthly DNAP faculty meetings.
  • Works collaboratively with the Clinical Director to coordinate projects conducted at clinical sites while ensuring that policies at all clinical sites are followed.
  • In conjunction with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director, coordinates the first and second reader assignments for student scholarly projects.
  • Maintains a timeline of deliverables for the student scholarly project that is in accordance with the Evidence Based Research Methods courses and Clinical Research Seminar series course objectives, program, and Graduate School requirements.
  • Maintains a record of student progress in completion of deliverables related to the scholarly project.
  • Maintains a record of student Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (CITI) Human Subjects Training prior to implementation of scholarly projects.
  • In conjunction with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director, provides student guidance and ensures compliance with Georgetown's IRB submission and approval process.
  • In conjunction with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director, assists with first and second reader duties for all scholarly projects as needed.
  • Provides office hours to provide mentorship with scholarly project progression.
  • In conjunction with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director, coordinates the availability of adjunct faculty for statistical support and scientific writing for the scholarly project.
  • In conjunction with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director, establishes timeline for due dates for project deliverables.
  • In conjunction with the Program Director and Assistant Program Director, develops and maintains template letters for project submission to the appropriate entities (Graduate School, IRB, and others as necessary).
  • Schedules bi-monthly and ad hoc meetings with the Program Director to discuss scholarly project progression.
  • Maintains a record of student dissemination of the scholarly project.


The projected salary pay range for this position is $205,000 to $215,000, which represents the full range of anticipated compensation for this position. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
