Pay Range: $27.42 - $35.38 hourly. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications. This position is Non-Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

CU Advantage

Because this appointment is temporary, you will not be eligible to receive all of the benefits normally provided to members of the university staff under the standard University of Colorado benefits programs. You are not eligible to receive paid vacation leave, medical, or retirement benefits. However, you are eligible to accrue sick leave and you will accrue 0.034 hours of sick leave per hour worked.

Summary

The Senior HR Generalist will play a crucial role within the UCCS Human Resources team, providing comprehensive support across various HR functions. This position is responsible for ensuring smooth operations in Talent Acquisition, Compensation, HR Operations, and Employee Relations, particularly during periods of heightened activity. The role involves executing strategic HR initiatives, managing complex projects, and supporting university-wide changes, including performance management and compliance adjustments. This role demands a high degree of discretion, analytical skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently while supporting cross-functional HR projects.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Talent Acquisition and Compensation:
  • Assist the Talent Acquisition team in managing executive searches, including coordinating efforts for up to three Dean searches as needed.
  • Support the Compensation Strategy Project by assisting in the development and implementation of strategic pay initiatives, including guideline creation and review.
  • Contribute to the Faculty Qualification Data Project, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and efficient communication.
  • Provide daily transactional support to the Talent Acquisition team, including coordinating job postings, position description reviews, position requests to fill, and various other requests.
  • Support compensation-related activities, including adjustments to the FLSA, ensuring compliance through effective communication, education, and necessary updates to employment documentation.
  • Assist in updating market matches for compensation data to ensure accurate benchmarking and alignment with peer groups, supporting competitive and equitable pay structures.

Employee Relations and Experience:
  • Provide interim support to Employee Relations and ADA functions, including addressing employee concerns, facilitating reasonable accommodations, and preparing for the establishment of a dedicated Faculty Affairs Office.
  • Coordinate a variety of employee engagement trainings, including sessions on incivility, workplace bullying, and supervisor/chair management expectations
  • Support the rollout of the new performance management system by assisting with communications, training, and system implementation.
  • Engage with staff and faculty to promote positive employee experiences through effective communication and issue resolution.

HR Operations and Training:
  • Coordinate various campus-wide training programs, including the Excellence in Leadership Program (ELP) and staff leadership cohort. May create leadership development modules for staff leadership cohort.
  • Assist with the implementation of revised FLSA regulations, including assisting employees and supervisors with time reporting requirements and changing data in HRIS and the timekeeping system.
  • Contribute to various HR initiatives, including the Time and Labor implementation project.
  • Provide flexibility and support across different HR Operation functions as needed, helping to manage increased workloads and project demands.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required. Substitution: Year-for-year experience will be considered as a substitution for the degree.

  • A graduate-level education is preferred.

  • Must have a proven record of supporting and implementing HR strategies, particularly in the areas of recruitment, employee relations, and HR compliance.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex HR issues independently and apply a high level of discretion and analytical skills is required.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and educate diverse audiences on HR policies, procedures, and system changes is required.

  • Must have proven experience organizing and managing multiple projects and initiatives, ensuring timely and accurate completion.

  • Must have proven track record of handling sensitive and confidential information with the utmost integrity and discretion.
