Job Description:
VPA serves approximately 1,600 undergraduate students in 25 undergraduate degree programs and approximately 200 graduate students in 17 degree programs. The Office of Academic and Career Advising within the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) is currently seeking a career advisor to deliver services to students enrolled in its various majors. This is a 10-month position from August 16 to June 15 for each academic year.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.

Responsibilities:
- Individual career advising appointments with students. Career support for: internship searches, mentoring initiatives, career transitions, resume/application material critiques, job search strategies, networking tips, interview preparation, and branding/entrepreneurial guidance, etc.
- Work collaboratively with the academic advising team, to enhance the student experience.
- Support for VPA career services initiatives and events. Including (but not limited to) student survey data research, event support, creating slide presentations, delivering/attending classroom presentations/visits. Responsible for collection of first destination survey data.
- In collaboration with VPA Communications, update information on external and internal VPA career webpages.
- Develop and/or facilitate career services workshops on skill development, exploration of relevant career opportunities, and prepare students for job fairs, etc.
- Present and deliver training and workshops using contemporary best practices.
- Student outreach - career related updates to student populations, creation and delivery of VPA career services newsletter (or newsletter alternative such as social media, a blog, etc.).
- Responsible for social media presence (e.g. directly posting opportunities to LinkedIn).
- Stay current on the needs of specific student populations and relevant industry trends (e.g. international students' requirements for internships, pertinent career options related to VPA majors, gig economy, etc.).
- Attend training workshops and other professional development opportunities on relevant student needs and issues.
